It is often true to say that remodeling the master bedroom is one of the last places in the home that receives a makeover but it has become one of the most desirable on homeowner's lists. Gradually, the movement to make the bedroom a more special place is gaining momentum as more of us decide that we want more from this room. In Europe of course, in particular, France and Italy, the master bedroom has always had a more sensual feel it.
This can be achieved with the use of certain colors that have a warm and emotional feel to them, associated with sensuality; pinks, reds and peaches all fall into this category. If you are fond of candlelight then the addition of strategically placed mirrors will give a dramatic effect that could not be done with conventional lighting. Candles are also useful but they need mirrors to enhance the reflections or you can add plants which will also provide the same effect.
The problem is getting the lighting just right as you do not want to have really bright lights in a bedroom but softer more relaxed shades that will not strain the eyes but still make it easy to read. Of course when you paint your reading room you will need to choose soft colors that are relaxing and reflect light without glare; colors like old world ivory, antique amber, sage green, or slate blue for instance. For people remodeling the master bedroom into a type of retreat then the addition of large pillows, cushions and colorful throws can help create this effect plus the odd mirror and perhaps a picture or two, preferably a landscape.
To turn this into a reading room as well, only a relaxing chair and a floor lamp will be necessary and suddenly your master bedroom has been remodeled into a completely different room with more than one purpose. This feeling of sanctuary which you are hoping to achieve when you remodel your master bedroom can be helped by having family photos spread around the room, but in period frames which help provide that sense of history. The most comfortable colors for a sanctuary style room are darker shades like chocolate brown, deep greens and cobalt blues which help make the room feel cozy.
For those people where space is not an issue when they remodel their master bedroom, why not add a few extra touches like a small desk to write on and perhaps some music to listen to. You can even add a refrigerator providing you can find a suitable cabinet to conceal it and often a small tea or coffee service will complete the effect. Remodeling your master bedroom may end a project that requires some compromise if there are two occupants that cannot agree on a particular them but many mentioned previously can be mixed and matched quite successfully together.
